He claims the party president, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine had nothing to do with it.
It should be recalled that last week Bobi Wine announced changes at the National Unity Platform party. Mpuuga was replaced by Nakawa west MP Hon Joel Ssenyonyi. Although rumors had always lingered that Mpuuga was to be replaced soon, it wasn’t yet clear.
Despite Kyagulanyi saying that the former DP MP wasn’t fired, many have interpreted it so. According to Mukaku, it was definitely the influence of the gay community that had Mpuuga packing out of the office he held since May 2021.
It should be noted that NUP supported the Anti Homosexuality Act with a majority number. When asked about this while appearing on BBC, Kyagulanyi said that some of his MPs work with Museveni. And this is why the law was supported in majority by his party MPs.
Besides, Lubega Mukaku also wondered if the new LOP, Hon Ssenyonyi can mobilize people and also talk with people from other parties.
“The gay community asked that LOP @MathiasMpuuga be replaced because he supported the Anti Homosexuality Bill. Can Ssenyonyi mobilize people from all parties? Can he negotiate with other people?” Mukaku wondered on NBS TV’s Barometer show.
NRM member, Godfrey Kiwanda who was also on the show said that Kyagulanyi misfired with the replacement of Mpuuga.
Besides Ssenyonyi wasn’t the best candidate for the job but rather Mityana municipality MP, Hon Francis Zaake. This is because he knows how deep the struggle is according to Kiwanda.
