He’s been occupying the office since 2015 after having replaced Hon Maria Kiwanuka. However, according to Mulindwa, President Museveni is the real Minister of Finance.
Kasaija is only a delegate to foster the President’s directives.
Rogers Mulindwa made the comments in regards to the proposed salary increment of Parliamentarians. He said that the President will address this situation.
Furthermore, Mulindwa said that these Parliamentarians are selfish. As much as it wouldn’t be bad to increase their salaries, it’s wrong to do so at such a critical economic crisis.
“The problem I have with this Parliament is when and how. It is not bad to increase their salaries but not during this time when the country is in an economic crisis.”
“President Museveni is the Minister of Finance for this country. Hon. Kasaija is delegated. The President will address this issue about the MPs wanting to increase their salaries,” Mulindwa said on the NBS Eagle.
According to Mulindwa, these MPs are 100 times richer than the people they lead. Therefore, increasing their salaries shouldn’t be their priority now.
It should be recalled that news became public of how these MPs want to increase their salaries. They also allocated Shs 193 billion for their allowances.
Another panelist, Hon Joseph Ssewungu Gonzaga said that the problem is voters. It’s voters that vote poor people into Parliament.
These actually sell off all their properties to get to Parliament. And once they get there, it’s payback time. He cited an example of Kenya, where they vote only for rich people.
“In Uganda, we vote poor people into Parliament. They sell their belongings to come to Parliament. In Kenya, they vote for rich MPs who won’t come eyeing money,” said Hon Ssewungu.
