Media Personalities Gear Up For 2026 General Elections: A Sneak Peek

Media personalities like the former Bukedde TV presenter Flavia Namulindwa, who has been based in the U.S., is making a comeback to Uganda with aspirations to represent Gomba East Constituency in Parliament.

Despite her unsuccessful bid on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket in 2021, Namulindwa remains determined to make her mark in the political arena.

Former journalist with UBC TV and NTV Uganda, Joel Ssenyonyi, currently serving as the Member of Parliament for Nakawa West, has taken on additional responsibilities as the spokesperson for the National Unity Platform and the Leader of Opposition in Parliament.

Ssenyonyi’s multifaceted role showcases his commitment to public service and leadership.

Joyce Bagala, a familiar face from NBS TV, is now the Women’s Representative for Mityana District, having defeated the incumbent Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development in the 2021 elections.

Bagala’s diverse media background has prepared her for the challenges of political representation, setting the stage for an intriguing rematch in the upcoming elections.

Blasio Mukasa’s political debut

NBS TV news anchor and talk show host Blasio Zambali Mukasa is stepping into the political arena by vying for the Nansana Municipality seat.

With a successful media career spanning various stations, Mukasa brings a wealth of communication skills and public engagement experience to his first foray into elective politics.

Former NBS TV journalist and current Principal Press Secretary to the Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Sabiti, is throwing his hat into the ring for the Okoro County seat in Zombo District.

Sabiti’s transition from journalism to politics reflects his dedication to serving the community and contributing to legislative decision-making.

Miles Rwamiti Apuuli, a familiar face from Urban TV and NTV Uganda, is gearing up to challenge incumbent Joel Ssenyonyi for the Nakawa West seat. Despite a previous electoral attempt in 2021, Rwamiti’s determination to secure a parliamentary seat demonstrates his resilience and commitment to public service.

Diverse media personalities in the political arena

In addition to the highlighted figures, other media personalities such as Simo Omunene (Simon Maseruka) of Bukedde FM and Tuff B (Robert Sekidde) of NBS TV are also eyeing parliamentary positions in the upcoming elections.

Their entry into politics adds a dynamic element to the electoral landscape, reflecting the intersection of media influence and public governance.

Mark your calendars for the crucial electoral milestones ahead. Parliamentary nominations are scheduled for Tuesday, September 16, 2025, and Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

The polling period for presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections, including Special Interest Group (SIG) representatives, will take place from Monday, January 12, 2026, to Monday, February 9, 2026.
