Uganda is one of the most conservative countries in Africa and doesn’t usually support the behavior dominated by European countries. Some of these behaviors include homosexuality and using substances like marijuana and others.
Recently, it is when Uganda decided to make marijuana legal especially for business although it took them a long time to come to this agreement.
Now the internal affairs minister Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire wants Miraa to be added to marijuana as they make it legal.
According to Kahinda Otafiire, Uganda should remove Miraa from the prohibited substances at the moment. He said if Miraa was dangerous, it would have killed the people of Somalia because they largely use it.
The minister said he thinks Miraa is not more dangerous than coffee and alcohol which are legal in Uganda.
“I don’t think it is more dangerous than coffee and alcohol. So, ladies and gentlemen, I think we better remove it from the prohibited substances. This is because if it was dangerous, how come it has not killed people in Somalia.” Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire said in Parliament.
It should be noted that Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire’s suggestion hasn’t been discussed largely.
