Ministry of Gender has earmarked sh154 billion for youth projects to address impacts of Covid 19 pandemic, State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs Sarah Mateke revealed. She explained that the money will be extended to skilling institutions like industrial parks countrywide.
She was speaking to the media while launching Youth Week as Uganda prepares to celebrate International Youth Day on 12th August.
The theme of International Youth Day 2021 is, “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health.
The world celebrates International Youth Day annually on 12th August. This is to bring youth issues to the attention of the international community and governments. And to prioritize youth issues into their national budgets.
Boniface Okot, a youth MP from Northern Uganda urged the youth countrywide to connect with legislators. This will ensure that they cater for their agendas.
“We are excited with the Youth Week because it’s important for us to appreciate history and address youth challenges. However I take this moment to challenge young people to connect with legislators so that we benefit from government programmes,” Okot said.
Bernard Odoi Eastern youth MP also urged parents to expedite on covid jabs so that the youthful students go back to school.
“Government should print educational material to distribute to the districts for easy learning during covid,” Odoi said.
The Ministry of Gender will mark the day at State House Entebbe on 12t August.
