She appeared on the floor of the parliament to give accountability on the vaccination process that started this week.
‘’The total amount of money that we have calculated with the finance ministry is 162 million U.S. dollars,’’ Aceng told the Parliament.
She said the ministry is targeting to have at least 49.2% of the total population of Uganda above 18 years vaccinated. She revealed that they intend to do this by the end of the three phases of vaccination.
Uganda received 800,000 doses of the Astra-Zeneca Covid-19 Covid vaccines last week. On Sunday, the country received an additional 100,000 doses of the vaccine from the government of India.
Members of parliament raised a point of national concern saying they hoped the vaccine doesn’t concentrate in only Wakiso and Kampala. In response, Aceng said the vaccine has already been delivered to every district across the country. She added that the vaccination process has already commenced for health workers and teachers.
On the contrary, the Astra-Zeneca vaccine continues to receive criticism across the world. Many countries have even discontinued its distribution and this is due to its side effects.
Dr. Aceng, however, assured the nation that the vaccine is safe otherwise the World Health Organization wouldn’t have approved it.
