Ministry Of Local Government Set To Launch Standardized Security Stamps

The Ministry of Local Government is set to officially launch Standardized Security Stamps on Friday that will be used by newly elected Local Council Chairpersons 1 and 2 country wide.

The new stamps take effect June when the new office bearers take office however ministry of local government in partnership with local councils will collect old stamps from ex officials.

Commissioner for Local Council Development Kinga Mugyema says the move is to stamp out multiple forgeries of official documents by culprits issuing fake stamps to people seeking official letters of recommendations for employment, travel documents and passports.

He hopes with the new stamps in place conflict between old politicians illegally possessing official stamps for personal use will end.

“We procured Standardized Security Stamps to be used by village and parish chairpersons 1 and 2 as new office bearers to process official documents to the public. My appeal is that ex officials must hand over stamps in use to new office bearers as we phase out old stamps in use, “Mugyema advised.

The procurement of these Standardized Security Stamps follows President Yoweri Museveni directive to ministry of local government to eliminate conflicts within local council as they procure stamp out corruption.

Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation won the tender to supply these Standardized Security Stamps worth sh 4 billion.

Mugyema cautioned out going village leaders to humbly hand over stamps to new office bearers as ministry phases out old stamps on use.

“These new stamps are property of government of Uganda. No leader should use it for personal gain and must be handed over when office bearers change,” he explained.

Ministry in partnership with district leaders namely Chief Administrative officer, Resident District Commanders and Local Council Chairpersons 5 will distribute these stamps in 145 districts and cities excluding Kampala.

Top district leaders namely RDC, LC5 chairpersons must be attend and receive consignment of the stamps during the regional commissioning sessions and signing of stamps consignments.

Mugyema advised CAOs, RDCs and LC5 to monitor the proper use of stamps well.

“I caution the district and village leaders to use the stamps well to improve service delivery. Ministry of local government will provide the guidelines and messages to be utilized and monitor its operations and ensure routine maintenance,”

Partners in stamps national information and technology authority (NITA), Internal Security Organisation responsible for technical guidance and standardization.

The stamps will eliminate forgeries so that right people get recommendations for official documents to stabilize the country.

Ministry of local government will look into the future to procuring similar stamps for the Local Council 3 and 5.
