The Ministry of Works and Transport ( MOWT ) has announced planned maintenance works along the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway, beginning on Wednesday, 26th February 2025.
The 14-day project aims to tackle underground water seepage issues that have been causing deterioration of pavement layers and weakening the road surface in key sections.
The maintenance efforts will focus on the Exit Ramp at Kajjansi towards the Old Entebbe Road and a section at Kilometre 17+000 near the Pepsi Cola factory (Busega-Mpala section).
China Construction and Communications Company Ltd (CCCC) has been engaged by the Ministry to address these defects under the warranty guarantee obligation with the Government of Uganda.
Authorities advise motorists to plan accordingly for disruptions to traffic flow during this period.
Enhancing infrastructure and traffic flow for a safer commute
The Permanent Secretary of MOWT, Bageya Waiswa, outlined the scope of the works, which include installing subsurface drains, milling and resurfacing affected areas, and adding edge kerbs to direct surface water to drainage channels.
The Ministry has instructed the contractor to ensure effective traffic management to minimize disruptions and keep traffic flowing smoothly. Motorists are urged to follow traffic diversion signs and exercise patience during the maintenance period.
Bageya Waiswa expressed apologies for any inconvenience caused by the maintenance works and assured the public that the project will result in a safer and more durable road surface.
The scheduled completion date for the maintenance works is 12th March 2025, with the government’s commitment to enhancing the sustainability of key infrastructure projects by improving drainage systems and extending the lifespan of roads.
