Missing Seed School Funds In Katakwi Prompts Investigation

A missing Seed School Funds in Katakwi district has concluded a countrywide fact-finding mission by a section of Members of Parliament on the Committee of Education and Sports.

This mission was to ascertain the standards of education in all government secondary schools on Tuesday, November 14, 2023.

The team, arriving in two parliamentary buses, visited Karamoja sub-region and concluded their mission in Teso, Ngariam County, Katakwi District.

They discovered that local leaders were concerned about how the district authorities diverted 750 million shillings meant for the phase three construction of Akoboi Seed School in Akoboi Sub County.

Led by the Committee Chairperson on Education and Sports in Parliament, Hon. Twesigye John Ntamuhiira, who also represents Rubirizi County, the MPs identified numerous loopholes that need immediate attention.

Twesigye stated that the goal was to investigate how government resources, appropriated by parliament, are being utilized. He emphasized that committees are vigilant during budget allocation to ensure that every ministry is recognized as the best.

He warned officials to refrain from diverting government funds that have already been appropriated by parliament for specific purposes.
They recommended an immediate investigation and the arrest of officials involved in the diversion of resources for personal gain. They also warned the district councils not to deviate from the core principles of leadership.

For Katakwi District, specific letters will be written to the LC5, CAO, District Speaker, Secretary Education, DEO, and District Engineer to address the matter in Kampala.

The Secretary of Education in Katakwi District, Hon. Irene Among, was hesitant but disclosed information about the letter sent to the district. This is concerning a seed school to be built in Okulonyo Sub County in Usuk County.

Among also urged Members of Parliament to obtain facts from the district’s technical personnel. This is as they are in possession of those letters.

The individuals invited included district officials, political leaders, opinion leaders, media representatives. They also included head teachers with their deputies, and chairpersons of PTA and BOG in the schools of Ngariam County.
