More UAE Stranded Ugandans Returned Home By NUP

The number of Ugandans rescued from the United Arab Emirates by National Unity Platform (NUP) has now risen to 42.

This rose from 30 after 12 more were received yesterday at Entebbe International Airport.

While welcoming the 12 repatriated Ugandans at NUP headquarters in Kamwokya, the party spokesperson Mr Joel Ssenyonyi asked the government not to politicize the campaign.

He said the Ugandans in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) should enjoy equal rights and opportunities just like any other citizen.

“We should not just look on as Ugandans are suffering from the UAE. This is everyone’s responsibility and instead of criticizing the campaign. We can come together to ensure that our brothers and sisters are returned home,” Mr Ssenyonyi said.

He further said it is absurd that the government has looked at the campaign from a political perspective.

Revealing that this could be the reason why the rescued migrant workers were kidnapped and interrogated about their relationship with NUP.

Bobi says the first group of Ugandans were intercepted

Hon. Kyagulanyi on Tuesday revealed that some of the previously rescued people were intercepted at the airport and held for about 7 hours.

“As part of our efforts to repatriate Ugandans stuck in detention abroad, 15 Ugandans landed at Entebbe today at 10:30 am. They were singled out by operatives who are still holding them seven hours later. The whole intention is of course to frustrate this effort,” Bobi Wine tweeted on Tuesday.

The NUP party revealed that this campaign will also be expanded to all African countries as a sign of Pan-Africanism. Some of the girls told reporters that during the detention, they were questioned about their relationship with the NUP party.

What is more, they revealed that their phones were confiscated. They asked them to reveal the contacts they had with Bobi Wine.

“We were later taken in a drone to the taxi park and ordered to board our respective homes. This is on condition that we should never go to NUP headquarters. Or even to Mr Kyagulanyi’s home in Magere,” one of the girls said.
