Moses Magogo, the president of the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has heaped praise on local singer Pia Pounds. This is after she showed an initiative to support local football.
Taking to her X Twitter page, the singer said that Ugandan football especially the local league can be supported better to make it more enticing.
The singer queried how the league can be watched more. And how it can get more airplay and how it can become more entertaining for the local fans.
“How can The Uganda Premier League get some attention? How can we watch more games? And how can the league get more airplay?”
Among the people this post attracted was Eng Moses Magogo. The FUFA president said that from onwards, he will start supporting the Tupate singer from simply this post. He added that this is a challenge for other artists too.
Additionally, Mr Magogo said that he’s an ardent consumer of Ugandan art in all its forms. It’s, therefore, so good when artists also reciprocate the love from sportsmen.
Read his post below;
“From today onwards, I will follow and support songstress @pia_pounds for supporting and posting about the @upl.
It is such a challenge to many other artists. I am a confessed consumer of Ugandan Art be it comedy or poetry or drama or movies or music or sports or painting.”
As soon as this communication was posted, it seemed to inspire, singer Azawi. She said she will be present at Wankulukuku stadium tomorrow as she supports Vipers against SC Villa.
It should be noted that Ugandan football has a huge potential but the marketing has still been lagging behind. In fact last year, singer Bebe Cool urged football clubs in the Uganda Premier League to make use of artists.
He told them that these have a huge fan base. And when they decide to support a club and get involved in it’s activities, their fan base follows them. He went ahead to affiliate himself with Express FC which his son Alpha Ssali also plays for.
It’s, therefore, fair to say that the Red Eagles’ numbers soars both at the pitch and on social media. This can be attributed to the Bebe Cool factor.
Whereas some clubs followed this advice, others didn’t. Generally, there is still a lot to do to propel the league to the highest levels and marketing is top of the priorities.
