MP Betty Nambooze Reveals The Deputy Speaker Tortured Hon Francis Zaake Mentally

Mukono Municipality MP Hon Betty Bakireke Nambooze has come out to air her views in regards to the impeachment of Mityana Municipality MP Hon Francis Zaake as the Commissioner of Parliament. Nambooze says that the Deputy Speaker, Hon Anita Among doesn’t know that she was torturing Zaake as a result of her words.

It should be recalled that Among mocked Zaake after he participated in the East African Parliamentary games. The MP even won a medal in athletics. This saw Among wonder how Zaake was able to do this yet he claimed he has been gravely tortured after his kidnap by security forces.

Among’s words did not please Zaake who went on a full rant on his social media pages. He hurled a number of insults onto Among which got him kicked from his role.

Nambooze says that the Deputy speaker doesn’t know what Zaake was going through mentally.

She added that the topic about mental health is still lagging behind in the country. Besides Zaake revealed to the Commission that he was still undergoing trauma when he ranted.

“Deputy Speaker may not have known what a person feels when you talk about what they went through. We are still backward as far as mental health is concerned. Zaake revealed to the committee that he has been undergoing trauma since his torture, no one has paid attention to it,” she says.

Nambooze also says that she saw new faces in Parliament during the poll to impeach Zaake. She believes these were SFC soldiers meant to crush Parliament in case of any defiance. Nambooze made the comments while appearing on NBS TV’s Barometer show.

She also took time to address the issue of rising prices of commodities. Nambooze says that most prices of commodities have risen and yet there is no answer.

She wonders whether it’s the Russian-Ukrainian crisis as President Museveni at one time said.

“I have been looking around my house to see items made in Ukraine after President Museveni said we were being affected by the Ukraine-Russian conflict. Our money has been losing value since the 2021 elections.”

The legislator added that these prices have hiked because a lot of money was in circulation during the elections. And besides this was not through sweat and now with a lot of hard work, money is scarce.
