During the meeting it emerged the chief executive officer Jeniffer Bamuturaki without the knowledge of Uganda airlines secretary, Bisereko Kyomuhendo unlawfully contracted the independent online journalist association Uganda led by Andrew Irumba a blogger and CEO of online publication “the Spy”up to a ton of shs156 million to counter bad publicity agonist the airlines.
According to Casase chairperson Joel Ssenyonyi he produced a copy of the contact drafted by the CEO of Uganda airlines and allegedly witnessed by Bisereko the cooperation secretary.
However this shocked Bisereko who claimed he was seeing the document for the first too.
The meeting become more stormy as Ssenyoyi tasked Bamuturaki to respond with Yes or No where she had signed the contract with Irumba ( the spy CEO) in Dec 2021 but backdated it to April the same year so as to pay shs.13 millions per month.
Bamuturaki said she wasn’t prepared for such questions
In response surprisingly Bamuturaki responded that she wasn’t prepared for such questions arguing the committee ought to have pre informed her about the questions they were going to ask her so as to prepare for responses.
However by drafting the contract more over doctored. MPs also learnt that Bamuturaki usurped the role of Shakilla Rahim Lamer the head of corporate affairs and public relations department at airlines when she assigned Regina Tibasiima the acting commercial director to supervise the work of the bloggers.
In addition it also emerged that Tibasiima who had for long close to a year also possessed only A level certificates as opposed to a degree which is a requisite qualifications or the position she is holding.
She was later on handed to the Criminal Intelligence Department (CID) attached to the committee that accompanied her out of parliament to her office to produce reports she had been making to Bamuturaki relating to her role in monitoring activities of the spy.
Ssenyonyi added that it’s the same INDOJA that has allegedly been trying to blackmail Cosase for their prob.of the airline including claims that the MPs have been bribed by the airlines competitors to fail the national carrier.
Abbavator was hired to offer advertising services
Furthermore more information also emerged that Bamuturaki influenced the award of Shs 348 b to PR firm Abbavator group and not Shs 2.697 billion as earlier submitted by the airlines officials.
Abbavator had been recommended by Bamuturaki to offer advertising and promotions services for the revived Uganda airlines which she is being accused of admission, harbored and conceded interest in Abbavator because it belonged to her close associate and pastor Mark Arnold Odeke the group’s CEO.
Casase chairperson tasked Bamuturaki to further explain how she was part of the 3 man committee headed by Patrick Omony Okema then Interim head of procurement and disposal unit , Joseph Ssebowa ( Manager human resource) of the airlines that highly appraised Abbavator group.
However Casase’s findings and recommendations will be presented to the House for adoption on a date yet to be established and they do claim to have enough information to enable them prepare the report and further tasked the airlines officials to present all the required documentation by the end of this week.
Conversely, Uganda airlines is the flag carrier and the company is a revival of the older Uganda airlines which operated from 1977 till 2011. The current carrier with six fleets began flying in August 2019 with 12 destinations.
