A few moments after his tweets, Muhoozi lost his post as the UPDF commander of the Land Forces. However though, that didn’t matter much as he got a promotion to a full general which left many people baffled.
After that, President Museveni issued an apology to the people of Uganda as well as to Kenya. But the leader of opposition, Mathias Mpuuga said the apology is inadequate.
He said if the apology is to be accepted, Muhoozi has to be demoted to a lower rank. He said this is the only way the anger of the Kenyans and Ugandans affected by this situation will be quenched.
According to Mpuuga, the tweets not only mocked the democracy and rule of law in Kenya. It also threatened Uganda’s national security by dragging the UPDF into a baseless argument.
As opposition, the tweets and apology are condemned with utmost disgust as well as the careless use of social media by a high ranking army official.
“As you may know, Kenya is Uganda’s main gateway to the sea and an economic powerhouse across the region. Anything that affects the relations between the two countries will have far reaching effects on Business and livelihood of the ordinary Ugandans,” he noted in a statement.
He explained that the president showed no concern to the reputation of a national army when he promoted his son. The army needs insulation from erratic and dangerous behaviour more so from one of its top officers according to Mpuuga.
