Mubarak Munyagwa Asks Parents To Stop Torturing Kids In Primary School Waking Up At 6am

Former member of parliament Hon Mubarak Munyagwa has asked parents to stop torturing kids in primary school. He said it is not worth it for them to wake up at 6 am every morning in coldness and rain to go to school.

He said there isn’t any content in primary school that requires a pupil to wake up that early.

In Uganda, there are more day schools. Pupils have to walk some distance to get to some school. Most parents can’t afford school shuttles that take their children to school. Others use motorcycles to take these children to their schools.

According to Hon Mubarak, he doesn’t understand why a parent chooses a school that is far from the home yet there are schools nearby.

He said some parents want to show their neighbours that they are better and they think getting a school far from home shows that. He said parents need to understand that children also need to have a clear mind in order to excel.

“There’s no content between Primary One and Seven that requires a child to wake up at 6 am. There isn’t,” he said.

It should be noted that education in Uganda is very expensive. Parents sacrifice so much to let their children acquire a good education.

Right now, some primary schools and high schools are more expensive than Universities. The government recently talked about regulating the increase of school fees but nothing has happened yet.
