According to Munyagwa, he had gone to Lukaya to inspect the people who had encroached on the wetland there. These were reportedly growing rice there. He was so shocked by the number of government officials he met there.
However, as he departed, he found that they had stacked sacks of rice and money worth 10,000 dollars inside his car. He right there and then threw away this money because these people were trying to set him up.
“Sometime back, I visited Lukaya to inspect the people who had encroached on the wetland and were growing rice. I was shocked by the government officials I met there. When I was leaving, I found out that they had put sacks of rice and $10,000 in my car. I threw it out before I left. They were trying to set me up,” said the former MP.
Munyagwa’s comments however left social media buzzing. These wondered how he managed to count the money there and know it’s value. It should be recalled that Lwera wetland has been destroyed by sand mining and rice farming. This saw the recent heavy rains on River Katonga submerge and destroy the bridge on the Kampala-Masaka highway.
Meanwhile NRM spokesperson Rogers Mulindwa said that this was just a natural disaster. In fact, it was a hazard like in other countries and they hope that it will be sorted soon.
MP Abed Bwanika who was on the show said that wetlands need to be protected. This should be in a way that not even NEMA can encroach on them.
He added that it’s only NEMA in the country which decides which wetlands can be encroached on. And this is not good for nature according to the Kimanya-Kaboneka MP.
