The MP said that most of these musicians don’t know what they are fighting for. He added that many of them need to be educated about this law because they seem to have no idea about what they are fighting for.
According to the MP, many musicians don’t know that the things they sing about were already sung about a long time ago. He said that singing about things such as love, money witchcraft is not new. They have been sung about before, therefore, these new singers aren’t the copyright owners.
“I always see these musicians crying and fighting for the copyright law. Do you even know what copyright law means? I think they need to be educated. The things you sing about were already sung about before you. So you haven’t created anything new,” the MP said.
These remarks however irked many musicians. They took to this social media to express their opinions about the MP’s take.
“Hahaha I can’t believe my brother has no idea about copyright, hmm,” Eddy Kenzo said.
“And you hear a member of parliament arrogantly speaking,” said rapper Feffe Bussi.
‘I’m so disappointed. Why should a learned man talk so raw? How could we say let’s leave politics to the intellectuals? Who says this? If it’s not good don’t consume but everyone got a right to advocate for what’s theirs,’ said singer Mudra.
It should be noted that musicians have been fighting for copyright law for the past couple of years.
