All this was said by President Museveni during the annual Julius Kambarage Nyerere Day commemorative Mass at Namugongo Catholic Martyrs’ Shrine while praying for late Julius Nyerere.

“For about 4.5 million years ago, which the Western world labelled the dark ages of Africa’s underdevelopment, no African fought for the struggle of Africa’s unity and independence like Nyerere did. For us Ugandans, we are grateful,” the President said.

The mass was attended by Pilgrims alongside 500 Tanzanians together with the widow of the former leader, Mama Nyerere. Kampala Archdiocesan Vicar General, Monsignor Charles Kasibante, led this Mass.

With due respect to late Nyerere, we join hands with the president to honor his duty.
