In an interview with one of the media he said, the meeting between the two was just a routine engagement. This is because most of the people linked it to NRM regaining support in Buganda.
“I think this was part of the routine engagement. Whenever there are issues either at personal level or in the kingdom, it just becomes imperative for the leadership of either the country or the kingdom that they meet and find out the feeling on either side. Because it is possible to react on the situation where you don’t have correct information.”
Apparently, the meeting had nothing to do with winning back the hearts of Baganda. In the recently concluded elections, voters showed NRM candidates the exit door with the fewest of votes ever.
NRM has since gone back to the drawing board. People probably think the president meeting the Kabaka is one of the strategies.
Meanwhile, he threw more light on disciplinary actions against members who came as independents. According to him, the party is still at persuasion stage with these members.
“According to the wise counsel of the party chairman, we usually begin from persuasion. Even when the disciplinary action is an alternative, it is usually the very last alternative and where members are persuaded and they see light, then there is no reason to resort to measures of disciplinary action,” Lumala Dombo said.
