The passing out happened on Friday, October 13, 2023.
The President congratulated the trainees upon completion of their training and graduation. He further thanked Ugandans at large for moving forward with developing the army and other strong institutions.
“All these 4,212 people except three have got at least O’level certificates and 500 of them are university graduates. One of the boys who got a prize here has got a degree in Industrial Chemistry,” he said.
He recalled how 1997 had very few graduates among them as they looked for people to go for an Officer Cadet Course in Tanzania.
At the moment, he said it is easier to get a graduate than to get a primary seven leaver in the army, something that should be considered good.
He also hinted on the importance of making training schools like Olilim centres of excellence. He said they help expose trainees which facilitates their learning and development process. He also awarded the best students from the training course while at the ceremony.
The Vice President, Jessica Alupo appreciated the president for professionalizing the UPDF and other armed forces.
She said this has led to total stability of the country. She also thanked the president for the establishment of Olilim Training School and the Counter Terrorism Police training school in Katakwi.
Ministers, Members of Parliament and UPDF leadership among others attended the ceremony.
