Artists have taken centre stage in the past few months in the financial matters of the country.
This has left some people criticizing the government for making entertainers a priority over other sectors they see as more valuable.
However, Ragga Dee says that the industry has been more affected than other sectors.
“Since Covid-19, musicians have been affected more compared to teachers. Teachers have their unions and Sacco’s where they get their money. I would like to inform everyone that music is a business like any other. Government should start to think about it because it contributes a lot to the economy,” the Ndigida singer said while appearing on NBS TV’s Uncut.
Fellow singer Phina Mugerwa who was also on the show asked musicians to be patient until the industry is reopened next year. She added that they have been patient for almost two years now.
They, therefore, can’t fail for just two more months.
Speaking about the Microfinance put in place for artists by the government through OWC, Phina said that this is there to give artistes loans and not hand-outs. They also said that they need 7.7b shillings to resume online concerts.
Some of these were ongoing a few months ago but were due halted to a number of reasons especially financial ones.
