They have been going through all sorts of debates, meetings and even formed associations just to have this law put in place.
While providing an update, the president of the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA), Cindy Sanyu revealed that this has already been enacted by the government. However, what is remaining is the stamping of the documents and learning the repercussions.
They want to know the enforcement measures of this law, especially how the offenders will be punished.
“I want to tell my fellow musicians that the Copyright law has been enacted. Almost all the formalities about it have been finalized and soon it will be going into play. What we are trying to find out is the repercussions of those who break it. For example how we can punish telecom companies who have been cheating us out of our work for long,” said Cindy.
The singer however didn’t reveal if the Uganda National Musicians Federation led by Kenzo was also part and parcel of this process.
The two groups have seemed to be at loggerheads as to who controls the industry. However, what is important is that it has been achieved. Musicians and other artistes have high hopes that this law will turn their fortunes around.
