Cindy Sanyu, the President of Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) has come out to reveal that the Uganda National Musicians Federation(UNMF) led by Eddy Kenzo doesn’t know what it is doing.
It should be noted that prior to the Federation’s foundation, UMA was the body responsible for all musicians in the country. However, a large number of influential musicians had foregone it.
On the formation of the Federation, these musicians joined it in large numbers. Reports from the Federation some weeks ago indicated that they had brought UMA on board.
According to the Boom Party singer, the Federation just seems to be in disarray. She added that it was the case for her too when she had just ascended to UMA’s leadership.
Talking about her musical nemesis, Sheebah who is the vice president of UNMF, Cindy said that she doesn’t care about the Nkujjukira singer’s position. All she cares about are the goals of UMA which she leads.
“I am sorry to say but the federation and all the members don’t understand what they are doing. When I had just joined UMA, I also didn’t know well how to handle some things,” said Cindy Sanyu.
Furthermore, she also commended the Uganda Performing Rights Society (UPRS). This is the body responsible for collecting and remitting musicians’ royalties.
However, musicians have always been disgruntled for over two decades on the money collected by UPRS. Some say they have never received this money while those who receive it say it’s peanuts.
Speaking about this, Cindy said that “Some artists got money from UPRS, I haven’t received any money. I would say congratulations to UPRS because they at least remembered that they have to pay us our money. We need to be grateful for the amount received and maybe expect more next time.”
