The Supreme Court gave him the green light to be sworn in as Uganda’s elected president. This came after National Unity Platform leader, Robert Kyagulanyi withdrew his petition that he had intended to challenge the election results.
Posters were pinned around the city last week reading, ‘’Museveni Tajja Kulayira’’ which translates to, ‘’Museveni will not swear in.’’ A pressure group only known as Time Is Now took responsibility for pinning up these posters. The group said they will not sit by and watch President Museveni swearing-in for another term in May.
As he addressed the nation on Sunday night, he warned anyone who thinks they can destabilize the swearing-in ceremony. He said they are just joking.
‘’The opposition had been planning to stop the swearing-in of the president; they won’t because the security forces will stop them. They won’t stop the swearing-in. Security forces will go for him or her,’’ Museveni said.
The president said the opposition plans crazy things like killing their fellow opposition and blaming it on the government.
Police arrested over 30 people last week during a joint military and police operation. Most of them were supporters of the NUP party. This came shortly after Robert Kyagulanyi had declared himself the winner of the January 2021 elections.
He encouraged his supporters to join him in peaceful protests to reclaim his 54.19% that the electoral commission stole from him. This never happened due to the security operations that happened right after the announcement.
