Netizens Roar In Support Of Two-term Academic Calendar For Schools

As schools reopen, many parents are working around the clock to meet countless needs and requirements by schools. President Museveni, during his New Year address, lifted the ban on schools and okayed their reopening on 10th January 2022.

Since then, stern warnings have been passed on schools exaggerating school requirements and hiking school fees. It, however, appears there is another idea that can save parents huge sums of money. The shortening of the academic calendar.

Kampala Central Member of Parliament Hon Muhammad Nsereko mooted the idea of reducing the academic calendar from three to two terms.

He says a concerned parent approached him to request that they reduce the calendar to two terms. This measure should enable parents to cut costs and enable them take their children to school.

The parent said this is due to the biting poverty brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic which has crippled many parents’ income.

‘’Been approached by a parent with a proposal that we should reduce school terms to 2. He states that 3 terms are very costly. He told me he can no longer afford tuition and a long list of requirements for his four children,’’ the legislator wrote on Facebook.

However, to his pleasant surprise, the proposal received outpouring support, with many stating that this can save parents from the exorbitant charges by school proprietors.
