The government of Uganda has recently released new guidelines for travelers visiting the country from visa-free nations. These guidelines aim to ensure a smooth and safe entry into Uganda.
According to the internal affairs ministry, all travelers must now have proper prior hotel bookings in the destination countries, a letter from their host and a return ticket before departing the country.
“ I must add that even in those countries where you don’t need visas to travel , you have got to apply for it ( visa) and also need a well documented plan.”
In an effort to strike a balance between promoting tourism and safeguarding public health, the government has set forth a set of requirements for visa-free visitors.
One of the key guidelines is the mandatory presentation of a negative Covid-19 test result upon arrival. Visitors must have taken the test within 72 hours before their intended departure to Uganda. The test should be a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) or a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test.
Additionally, travelers are expected to possess a valid health insurance plan that provides coverage for any Covid-19-related medical expenses.
Travelers to stay updated to the latest information
Upon arrival, visitors will be subjected to health screening procedures, including temperature checks and a thorough medical assessment. In case of any symptoms or suspicions of Covid-19, individuals will be required to undergo further testing and may be subject to quarantine protocols as deemed necessary by the authorities.
It is important to note that these guidelines may be subject to change based on the changing situation of the pandemic and the advice of health officials.
Therefore, it is recommended that travelers stay updated with the latest information and requirements before planning their visit to Uganda. The government is committed to promoting safe travel and sustaining the tourism industry in Uganda.
These guidelines serve as a proactive measure to strike a balance between welcoming visitors and ensuring the health and safety of all stakeholders involved.
Visitors are advised to comply with the guidelines and cooperate with the authorities to make their visit a smooth and enjoyable experience.
By following these protocols, we can collectively work towards preventing the spread of Covid-19 and creating a sustainable environment for tourism in Uganda.
