New US Ambassador To Uganda Natalie Brown Arrives To Start Official Duties

The new US Ambassador to Uganda Natalie Brown arrived in the country and will officially start work soon. She arrived on ground over the weekend according to a statement from the US Embassy and she aims at strengthening the relationship between the two.

‘’I am thrilled to be here. I look forward to getting to know Uganda and building on the strong US-Uganda partnership,’’ she tweeted on Sunday.

Upon her arrival in the country, Natalie went into 14-day quarantine as required by the CDC and Uganda’s Ministry of Health. She had to quarantine because the scare of the Coronavirus is still there in addition to the fact that she is from the worst-hit country.

Natalie Brown, according to the US Embassy, is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor. The Senate confirmed her as the U.S. Ambassador to Uganda on August 6, 2020, to replace Deborah Malac. Malac ended her five-year tour of duty to Uganda hence the replacement.

Previously, Natalie served as the Chief of Mission of the U.S Embassy in Asmara, Eritrea between 2016 and 2019. She also served as Deputy Permanent Representative and Deputy Chief of Mission to the UN Agencies in Rome, Italy. From there, she was elected to represent North America on the Finance Committee of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.

Natalie Brown is an alumnus of the International Career Advancement Program. She also became the first State Department participant in the International Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation Fellows Program.

She speaks French and Arabic and has studied Italian, German, Amharic, and Tigrinya.
