Mutebile Was Excellent Economist That Worked With Corrupt Regime – Bobi Wine

The National Unity Platform leader, Bobi Wine has come out to eulogize the fallen Bank of Uganda Governor, Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile.

Mutebile died yesterday in a Nairobi hospital where he had been receiving treatment for a while.

Taking to his Twitter page, Kyagulanyi sent his condolences to the family. He further said that Uganda has some excellent professionals.

However, the ‘corrupt and inept’ government has trapped them in a ditch. The regime didn’t spare the Central Bank either under Mutebile’s watch according to Bobi Wine.

“Learnt with sorrow, the passing of Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, a distinguished economist who served Uganda in different capacities before rising to position of Governor @BOU_Official. On my behalf and on behalf of NUP_Ug, I send condolences to his family and loved ones.

As we say, Uganda is blessed with some of the most excellent professionals, who unfortunately work with a corrupt, inept gov’t. Despite some of its notable achievements under his tenure, the regime hasn’t spared the Central Bank from interference as with all public institutions,” Bobi Wine said.

Bobi Wine cited Mutebile in 2011

He said the government misled him into the 2011 election. Despite achieving some heights under Mutebile, the regime destabilize the Central Bank.

Bobi Wine added that it’s sad Prof Mutebile became another prominent Ugandan dying on foreign land. This is because the government has totally failed to uplift health care in the country.

“We for example recall him speak of being misled to fund the 2011 election! And the scandals that rocked BOU later.” Bobi Wine added.

Mutebile has left many people with mixed opinions of his legacy. Some credited him for his magnificent economic policies that saw the revival of the economy in the post 1986 instability.

There are however some of those that criticized him due to the collapse of a number of monetary institutions and other businesses under his watch.

It’s not yet clear who will succeed him at the Central Bank of Uganda. Rumor has it that MUBS principal Prof Wasswa Balunywa might take the position.
