This movie which was written and directed by Loukman Ali started streaming on Netflix last year in December. This gave it a global audience and most of the reviews about it have been positive.
A renowned journalist in Nigeria, David Hundeyin took to his Twitter page to recommend the movie. He said that the movie is far better than most Nigerian movies on a high budget.
Hundeyin added that what is depicted in the movie is proper script writing by people with actual talent.
“If you have Netflix and you want to see what Nollywood is up against, check out a Ugandan movie called ‘The Girl in a Yellow Jumper.’ That’s what proper scriptwriting by people with actual talent and competence can achieve.”
This saw a number of comments come in on the tweet. Majority agreed with the tweet saying that the Ugandan movie is indeed great.
“I feel like Nigerian viewers don’t care about proper script-writing or if the director is talented or not. Just pitch them something laughable or sad enough to relate with and you’d win an Oscar.”
“Nigerian story lines have always revolved around the same shit. Our movies do not reflect our realities. Also why are they always shouting in movies sef?”
The Girl In The Yellow Jumper became the first Ugandan movie to premier on Netflix. It has literally showed what the Ugandan film industry is capable of once given the necessary support.
Loukman Ali on the other hand is doing brilliantly with other movies too.
