Before the music battle between Cindy Sanyu and Sheebah Karungi went down last weekend, word made rounds that the winner of the battle would go home with an extra UGX 100m.
The public has since been waiting for the jury to officially declare the winner. However, up to date, no clear winner has been announced.
As the public is still divided on who the exact winner was, Victoria University Vice Chancellor Dr. Lawrence Muganga has come out and set the record straight.
While appearing on Bukedde TV, Dr. Muganga noted that as an institution, they didn’t make any promise to pay any artist an extra sum of money after the battle.
“We made agreements with both artists but there was no hint that the winner was to walk away with an extra sum of money,” Dr. Lawerence Muganga said.
He went on to say that the agreement that they made with the artists is what they stood with before and after the battle.
He also added they were not responsible for announcing the winner of the battle. The judges of the night were the revelers who turned up on the evening.
This statement, however, takes us back to 2012 where Bebe Cool had a music battle with Bobi Wine. Up until today, no winner was announced. This now makes it seem like fans from both sides were taken for a ride.
Both Sheebah Karungi and Cindy Sanyu claim to be the winner of the battle. With this clarification from Dr. Muganga, no one therefore can claim with authority that they won. Not a fan of Sheebah, and definitely not one for Cindy.
In conclusion, this so-called music battle was no battle at all. It was rather a music show with two strong performers.
