No Journalist Without Accreditation From Uganda Media Council Will Cover Elections – Police Spokesperson Mr. Enanga

The Police Spokesperson, Mr. Fred Enanga has said that every journalist with no accreditation from the Uganda Media Council will not cover elections. He said this will begin on the 21st of December 2020.

According to him this will solve the problem of unbalanced news, spread of rumors and biased opinions which are surrounding the election period.

He emphasized that after the agreed date of 21st December 2020, all journalists with no accreditation will be treated like any other person. Privileges and any other special care will be given to accredited journalists when it comes to covering elections.

“All journalists who will insist to cover elections without the cards will be treated as well-wishers and will not benefit to the privileges that will be accorded to the accredited journalists,” Mr. Enanga said.

Since the media badges have security features, every accredited journalist will be required to give in their particulars. Later the police will affirm whether they match with what the Uganda media council will be having.

For this reason, Mr. Enanga asked the Journalists to be cooperative when they receive people from his office.

This is a very good move if government doesn’t use it to infringe on the rights of the journalists. If only it’s not just for elections but for all journalism related work areas it would really change the journalism world.

Identifying unethical journalists has become as easy as eating bananas. The kind of content they dish out is substandard, they don’t follow principles of journalism. The public is more misinformed today than it was a few years ago.
