Non-NRM Supporters Should Not Expect COVID 19 Stimulus Funds – Charles Rwomushana

Political analyst Charles Rwomushana has come out to warn all those waiting upon the COVID 19 relief package promised by the government to look for other survival means.

Rwomushana said that the proposed funds are just political games as usual while appearing on NBS’ Frontline program. Therefore this money will be disbursed but only to people who are known supporters of the government.

“The intention of the cash relief is not to save people from hunger. It is just politics. The money will only be given to their supporters. The money is for people in the yellow book.” Rwomushana said.

The government also came out yesterday to confirm that the amount to be given out will be Ugx 100,000. It went ahead to release the list of people who it had identified as vulnerable.

These include public transport operators, bar, gym and restaurant workers, boda boda riders among others.

Government also released a budget of how it had arrived at the Ugx 100,000. It had budgeted 20kgs of maize flour at 40,000/-, 10kgs of beans at 25,000/-, 1 bar of soap at 3000/-, 3 litres of cooking oil at 12,000/- plus 20,000/- for other miscellaneous items.

However, most people were quick to point out that many groups such as the disabled, students stuck in hostels among other categories were not included.

They also said that this money was meagre and besides the lockdown is already underway and nothing yet is advanced.
