Former Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema has revealed that there is nothing special about Manchester City and Spain midfielder, Rodrigo Hernandez. This is after the City man controversially won the Ballon d’Or ahead of Vini Jr.

The Brazilian was the favorite heading into the ceremony held on Monday. However a few hours to the announcement of the winner, it was announced that the Brazilian wouldn’t be crowned.

Eventually, Rodri was crowned but has faced a lot of backlash from the general public and several footballers especially from Brazil and Real Madrid.

According to Karim Benzema who won the accolade in 2022, Vinicius was the rightful winner. The Al Ittihad striker said that he has nothing against the Spanish midfielder. However, there’s nothing special that can glue you to his game and leave you in awe.

“I spoke to Vini, he’s sad… it’s also normal. He deserved to win the Ballon d’Or. I’ve nothing against Rodri, good player… but I’m in my sofa watching TV and Rodri doesn’t do anything that makes you say: wow!”

Meanwhile, La Liga president Javier Tebas castigated Real Madrid for boycotting the Ballon D’or ceremony. He said the club ought not to have questioned France Football’s system.

Besides, the club’s self-victimization is unnecessary and exaggerated. According to Tebas, this shows a lack of class from the club.
