NRM Bloggers Cry Foul As Facebook Bans Their Pages

American social media giant Facebook has pulled its gun triggers on NRM bloggers and pro-NRM social media users. A number of NRM leaning social media users woke up to find Facebook had deleted their accounts without an explanation.

The affected include Duncan Abigaba the deputy head of Government Citizen Interaction Centre (GCIC Uganda). Others like Facebook bloggers Ashburg Kato, Ismail Olaxes, Full figure, etc also faced the same axe.

Among media houses affected, Facebook also deleted Chimp reports’ senior editor Giles Muhame and the Chimp Reports official Facebook pages.

In a targeted attack on NRM bloggers, Facebook is not allowing any of the affected individuals to appeal and restore their deleted accounts.

This seems like a cyber war as previously NRM bloggers had ganged up on NUP social media accounts, hacked and deleted Facebook accounts of Ghetto TV, MAP Media, Kakensa Media, Peng Peng among others.

Some of these pages later rebranded and came back with new pages and are slowly gaining the following they initially had.

Government through Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) last month wrote to Google to delete YouTube channels of Ghetto TV and MAP media.

What the bloggers say

Some of the affected NRM Bloggers have resolved to open new pages. Ashburg Kato as nearly the most vocal has opened another page and in his first post, he says; “We will never give up”

Duncan Abigaba went further to tweet to Facebook in protest. In his tweet, he wrote,

“Hello @Facebook, you have blocked thousands of pro Government accounts in Uganda. Just to let you know that Uganda will hold a general election on 14th January, 2020. Perhaps these accounts were reported on the basis of political disagreements. Kindly look into this.”
