The party’s top leaders including President Museveni himself had denied the rumors. He in fact said that he wouldn’t allow such ‘nonsense’ to reign because Ugandans have a right to choose their leader.
This however seems like it was a curtain to block people from seeing what’s underneath the wall.
While appearing on NBS TV’S Morning Breeze Hon Felix Odupa an MP belonging to the NRM revealed the whole plot.
He said that after the party mourning the late Speaker Hon Jacob Oulanyah, they will embark on collecting signatures that permit the President to be voted through Parliament.
He further revealed that the Electoral Commission has already given them a go ahead. Odupa also said that the country needs a lot of things.
Besides, as NRM, they see a lot of loopholes in the Constitution they predominantly formulated in 1994.
He however said that these are just proposals and nothing is conclusive as of yet.
“After mourning our brother Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah, we shall embark on collecting signatures to see that the President is voted through the Parliament. The Electoral Commission has already given us the go-ahead.
This country needs a lot of things. We see a lot of problems with the current Constitution. These are just proposals,” Hon Odupa said
This would not be the first time that the NRM is ripping the Constitution apart to feed it’s narrative.
It has on a number of occasions been amended to satisfy their desires despite the vehement resistance from the public.
This proposal is however deemed to brew a lot of widespread outrage among the citizens.
The Opposition had earlier on accused the government of bringing up this proposal to enable the Muhoozi project. This is because the first son would never win a mass vote in case he was to run for president.
