NRM’s Uthuman Mugisha garnered 18,353. His closest competitor Muhumuza Vincent Savanna who ran on an independent ticket collected 12020 votes. Moses Aguuda from NUP had 3972 votes while FDC’s had 271 votes with Lenox Mugume. Another independent candidate picked up 179 votes.
“Having added up the number of votes cast as recorded on each declaration of results form in accordance with the Local Governments Act Cap 243, I declare Mugisha Uthuman Mubaraka who has obtained the highest number of votes as the winner for chairperson, Hoima electoral district,” the returning officer Merab Kasande said on Thursday night.
The winner, Mugisha apparently is the son of the late Kidiri Kirungi who was the district’s LCV chairperson. Kirungi passed away in an accident in March this year. Mugisha in his speech said that he’s going to move forward the projects initiated by his father.
With NUP’s recently concluded countrywide tour where they received overwhelming crowds, it was expected to put up fierce competition. This however didn’t happen as the NRM had a landslide win.
