Andrew won with 31,830 votes while Harriet of NUP got 31,380 votes according to Electoral Commission.
However, NUP is not satisfied with these results to the point that even their candidate could hardly speak to the media when approached.
Earlier before, the EC came out to declare the winner, NUP had aired their own results. According to them, Harriet Nagwedde was the winner with 35,212 while Muwonge had 20,661.
However, this is not the case after EC came out to declare the winner. Hon. Nambooze who was on the ground has said they are going to court to appeal because they have all the evidence they need.
Andrew Muwonge, the LC V chairperson elect has called Kayunga to go back to work now. He thanked the President who campaigned for him and for also believing in him.
He has pledged to work for Kayunga as he should because he is now in charge. The excitement on his face was rather not equivalent to the moment and it looked s though he was equally surprised.
As of now, we await for what NUP is going to do after this. It’s only Hon. Nambooze who said they are appealing but Nagwedde who was still numb has not yet stated a way forward.
Meanwhile, other results from the Kayunga by-election include, Musisi Boniface Bandikubi (Independent): 470.Kamoga Jamilu (Independent): 279. Waddimba Anthony (DP): 158. Nyanzi Majid (Independent): 1.297.
