Ntungamo Boss Declines Commissioning New Classrooms Over Shoddy Work

Samuel Muchunguzi Rwakigoba is the Ntungamo district LC5 Chairperson. He declined to commission a three-classroom block of Kikunyu Primary School in Itojo Ruhaama County over shoddy work.

The TREK LEGACY Construction Company Ltd did the ill-appreciated construction work at the school.

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Hanny Turyahebwa along with sub-county leaders accompanied Muchunguzi to the event.

He declined to accept the use of the facility saying the company did not do a very good construction job.

The building ‘ready for launch’ appeared with many cracks on the floor in all classes and there were no steps put for any of the classes.

They did the roofing job, as well as the verandah poorly. This is on top of the latrine located 800 meters away from the building.

According to Muchunguzi, the district education department released a total of Shs125 million for the School Facility Grant in 2020/2021. He said this money could finish the classrooms properly but this didn’t happen.

Ntungamo district LC5 Chairperson also warned that he will deal with such contractors who he says want to eat government funds and do shoddy work.

He added that if they don’t stop this habit, they will easily blacklist and cancel their certificates of registration.

As a solution, Muchunguzi said the contractor should clear the defects and tile all three classrooms. He also told them to tile the verandah and also level the ground of the facility.

When contacted for a comment, Mercy Ayebazibwe, the director of the company said the shoddy work came as a result of poor materials used.
