According to Solomon Kaweesa, his mother wanted grandkids and therefore had to honor her.
“I had wanted to be a brother and later transition to a father but one of my parents, my mother didn’t agree to it. She wanted grandkids and advised me against taking this path. So I had to listen to her and quit that career path. But throughout school, I had been a liturgy prefect and my tutors thought it was the vocation pre-destined for me,” he revealed.
The now popular news anchor also revealed how he ended up taking journalism. He says that he was inspired by his father who used to ask locals what had been read or written in the news. From there, he developed an interest in reading the news at school.
Someone spotted him and took him to Radio Sapientia in his senior six vacation and trained him to read news.
However, at University he took teaching as a course and graduated in teaching Luganda and History. However, he did his internship at NTV and when it ended, he had to leave because there wasn’t a spot to take him on.
Fortunately for him, the head of news in a meeting stood by him and said he wanted Kaweesa retained even if it meant cutting his salary.
