NUP Has Accepted That President Museveni Won; Godfrey Kiwanda

Minister Godfrey Kiwanda has come out to congratulate the National Unity Platform for officially accepting that President Yoweri Museveni won the January 14th presidential election.

NUP has numerous times refused to acknowledge the legality of the presidential election announced by the electoral commission in January.

The party under the leadership of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu assert the election was marred by untold levels of malpractice and violence.

The top leadership and its supporters went ahead to say they were very sure they had won the election. They therefore would not recognize the new government.

Rumours circulated of how the party and its supporters had plans of sabotaging the President’s swearing-in ceremony. This however did not come to fruition due to heavy and tight security deployment.

A lot of critics have however gone ahead to question NUP on why its elected party officials went ahead to swear in to work with a government they do not recognize. The NUP has gone ahead to assert they are not violent. Therefore they will use all legal means available to unseat the government

While appearing on NBS show “Barometer”, Kiwanda said NUP had officially conceded defeat.

“I want to congratulate Ugandans and the National Unity Platform for the new holy marriage we have started which is official,” Godfrey Kiwanda said.

Questioned on why he was saying this, Kiwanda added choosing a LOP is evident enough of accepting defeat.

“The mere fact that they accepted to choose a leader of opposition means that NUP recognizes NRM. This means NRM is the husband and NUP the wife and therefore are ready to cook for Ugandans. This is a very big step towards our country. They had an option to reject it but did not. But after reflecting, they have accepted defeat and will work with us. I want to congratulate them and show that what they said in the campaigns was propaganda.” Kiwanda added.

The show was attended by NUP officials, Nakawa East MP Joel Senyonyi and Mukono MP Betty Nambooze.
