President Museveni promised the union lunch allowances and Money for their Sacco but in vain.
Nurses and Midwives Union wrote to the minister of Public Service seeking fulfillment of issues that President Museveni promised by 20 December 2020.
Justus Chelop Executive Director Uganda Nurses and Midwives Union said that minister of Public Service has been promising to meet Nurses and Midwives. This is in regard to the fulfillment of these presidential pledges. Surprisingly they received phone call cancelling the meeting which they termed as an insult.
“We are tired of waiting and empty promises. If the government doesn’t deal with this matter by December, we shall go for industrial action.”
According to Annet Birungi the union Treasurer revealed that president Museveni promised the health attendants 15000 for lunch on daily basis. However, he has since failed to fulfill this promise.
She also said Museveni earlier promised to inject shs 1billion into Nurses and Midwives Union SACCO. Two years down the road, they have not received any money.
“These are the issues prompting nurses and Midwives to lay down tools on 30th December. Especially if government fails to address the matter,” Birungi said.
Usher Wilson Owere Chairman National Organization For Trade Unions (NOTU) called for immediate negotiation between the health attendants union and Ministry of Public service. This will help to harmonize the terms and get the government to release the money.
