Ofwono Opondo Will Join Opposition- Former MP Hussein Kyanjo Says

Former Makindye West MP, Hussein Kyanjo, says he will not be surprised when one day, the ruling NRM government deputy spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo, crosses to the opposition.

Kyanjo was speaking to Semweya Musoke, the host of NBS TV “Face-Off” programme on Sunday.

Opondo was in the news last week after he returned an Operation Wealth Creation [OWC] following criticism from Mukono councillors who decried a habit by government officials to grab what should belong to the poor.

A Daily Monitor cartoonist, Atukwase Chris Ogon, sketched Opondo stealing a bunch of women underwear from Uchumi supermarket while the OWC cow watched in awe.

A government spokesperson and Uganda Media Centre executive director, Ofwono believes opposition has to wait until 2060 [50 years later] to capture power.

But a former legislator Kyanjo is not worried about the people running around with the President, saying one day they will come to the opposition’s side.

“I will not be surprised if one day government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo comes running to me.”

He added: “If Amama Mbabazi came, then what can stop Ofwono?”

Mbabazi, a former powerful NRM secretary general and Prime Minister, fell out with President Museveni in 2015 and stood against him in the 2016 general elections.

Under his Go Forward party, Mbabazi further joined The Democratic Alliance [TDA], a coalition of opposition political parties.

Like Mbabazi, Kyanjo believes Opondo will soon denounce the ruling party and defect to the opposition.
