The People’s Front for Freedom (PFF) has recently pointed fingers at the judiciary, claiming that an upcoming Supreme Court ruling may be manipulated to justify the ongoing prosecution of opposition members in military tribunals.
Leading up to the much-anticipated judgment in the Kabaziguruka versus Attorney General case, PFF representatives have voiced their apprehensions during a press conference in Kampala, cautioning against potential repercussions for political dissenters, including prominent opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye.
Members of Parliament, such as Francis Mwijukye and Atkins Katushabe, have openly criticized the judiciary, particularly Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo, for allegedly condoning the use of military courts to prosecute civilians.
Their concerns center around the perceived infringement on constitutional justice and the potential silencing of political opposition.
PFF stands firm against perceived political interference
Despite reassurances from the judiciary, PFF remains steadfast in its belief that the case at hand is politically motivated and poses a threat to opposition members.
The party emphasizes the importance of upholding constitutional principles and urges the judiciary to deliver a fair and unbiased judgment.
In response to the accusations leveled against the Supreme Court, judiciary spokesperson James Eryeemye Mawanda has refuted claims of impropriety and called for trust in the court’s ability to uphold constitutional values.
The judiciary maintains its commitment to delivering justice in accordance with the law.
