Opposition Political Parties Unite Under Holy Alliance For 2026 Elections

In a significant move, opposition political parties within the Holy Alliance coalition have reached an agreement to present a single Presidential candidate for the upcoming 2026 general elections.

The coalition comprises a range of parties, including the National Economic Empowerment Dialogue (NEED), JEEMA, Uganda Young Democrats (UYD) Alumni, Social Democratic Party (SDP), Democratic Party (DP) bloc, Conservative Party (CP), and People’s Development Party (PDP).

During a recent meeting in Kampala, the coalition members discussed their election roadmap for the 2026 general elections. They also pledged to support candidates from within their parties for various elective positions across the country.

Foundation of the holy alliance

Mr. Joseph Kabuleta, President of NEED, emphasized the strong foundation of the Holy Alliance and urged members to stay focused on their goal of facilitating constructive dialogue and ensuring a smooth political transition in Uganda.

Marking the official start of their campaign, Mr. Kabuleta announced plans for nationwide outreach to promote the values and political platforms of all parties within the Holy Alliance. He acknowledged the challenges of maintaining alliances but drew inspiration from successful examples in other countries.

The coalition members voiced their support for electoral reforms to ensure the integrity of future elections in Uganda. They believe that these reforms are crucial for upholding the principles of free and fair democratic processes.

Moving beyond opposition politics

The Holy Alliance, as emphasized by Mr. Kabuleta and Hon. Asuman Basalirwa of JEEMA, aims to go beyond traditional opposition roles.

It seeks to foster unity, good governance, rule of law, and justice while advocating for a stable political transition through constructive dialogue and a consultative approach.

At the core of the Holy Alliance’s mission is the commitment to address unresolved issues and contribute to building a foundation that ensures fairness and inclusivity for all citizens during this critical period of transition in Uganda.
