Godfrey Kiwanda, National Resistance Movement (NRM) vice chairman for Buganda region, has said Oulanyah had told him he was poisoned.
Kiwanda is the second person to publicly come out after Oulanyah’s dad to say that the late speaker confided in him that he was poisoned.
“I find no contradiction with Oulanyah’s father who insists that his son was poisoned, the late Rt. Hon Jacob Oulanyah told me too that he was poisoned,” Kiwanda said.
Godfrey Kiwanda has not ruled out the fact that Oulanyah had an underlying illness he was battling. However, he says that was not the real cause of his death. He made the remarks while appearing on Capital FM’s political talk show on Saturday. He says when Oulanyah told him, he requested it be kept between them but Kiwanda went ahead to tell Hon. Baryomunsi.
During the final send-off of Oulanyah, Nathan L’Okori, his dad insisted that his son was poisoned. According to him, this was also the prime cause of his son’s demise.
“Jacob Oulanyah was poisoned. He told me. And he was operated on, doctors attempted to deal with the poison. The poison affected his health so badly, he was not in a position to recover,” Oulanyah’s father revealed.
President Museveni had earlier, however, warned people to stop making allegations without any kind of evidence.
“I would like to warn some people who are in the habit of taking advantage of problems to make cheap politics. And actually, we’re going to go for them. I have heard some people saying some people killed Oulanyah. The police will come and ask you to give them some information because Oulanyah did not die in a private home.”
