Our Separation Has Never Been Understood By The Country – Gen Mugisha Muntu

The leader of Opposition party the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), Mugisha Muntu, has revealed that the country has never understood why his faction decided to break away from the FDC.

After Besigye’s term as party president came to an end, Muntu contested for the party presidency against Patrick Amuriat Oboi. The hotly contested election was won by Amuriat, a thing that Muntu contested.

He then led a group of some top bigwigs to break away from the party. These eventually formed their own party, the ANT. However, since then people have always said that the two parties have bad blood between them.

Muntu though says that their break away helped to solve the crises that had developed in the party. These had sprouted over strategic differences. And it even helped to free the hands of Amuriat Oboi and the FDC at large.

“Our separation from FDC has never been understood by the country. Many people think it created weaknesses in the opposition. We had internal conflicts over strategy. There was paralysis in the party. Our separation freed the hands of Hon. Oboi and the FDC,” said Muntu.

Furthermore, Muntu said that they have to keep preparing themselves as opposition parties. This is because change is imminent and it will happen at some time.

Therefore they have to focus on building the necessary capabilities. This will help the party going into power to lift the country from the mess it is within.

The former army commander also said that they have a problem of people who decide with emotions when it comes to leadership. This, therefore, leads the politicians to use this to manipulate them.

“Unfortunately, we have got a significant part of our population that is moved more by emotion than reason. Many politicians have understood that we have an emotion-led population. So they give messages to excite the population and make promises they can not fulfill,” added Muntu.

He also further expressed his concerns about the current economic crisis in the country. Muntu said that when hit by a crisis, a government is very important. And such a government needs to have trust in the population which translates into easier communication.

This however is not possible with the current government.

Therefore, there is nothing verbal that the government can tell the people and they believe in it. This is due to the fact that they themselves do things that are contrary to what they preach.
