A condemned building or property is simply a building under lockdown or siege or has been placed under restrictions by local authorities.
This can happen for various reasons, including public safety and public health, in accordance with local ordinance.
KCCA’s Physical Planning Doctorate filed a technical assessment report over the last two years. The report assessment found out that there are 504 illegal buildings in the five divisions of Kampala.
These were constructed without approval by the concerned authorities.
On that note, therefore, the police together with KCCA and NBRB carried out a joint crackdown on Thursday.
They halted the construction of a proposed restaurant and office building on plot 20196, Block 216 in Ntinda. They accused the owner of deviating from the approved building plans.
Much as the building had been approved for a restaurant and office space, the proprietor cannot be allowed to partition it into an international school. He would need clearance from the NBRB first.
‘’The drawings for this site were submitted for approval and the KCCA building committee differed them and asked for additional information.
However, the developer ignored KCCA’s advice and went ahead with the construction,’’ Eng. Flavia Bwire, the Executive Secretary of the NBRB said.
KCCA also halted many other projects in the crackdown, some of which include commercial buildings and fuel stations along Salaama road in Makindye division.
They are also accusing them of altering initial construction plans.
