Panic As Uganda Registers 1,438 Covid Cases In One Day

Ministry of Health has announced highest covid cases of Covid ever recorded in Uganda in one day. The results pinned show 1,438 registered cases of covid out of 8,478 tested people. The country besides dealing with the first variant from China is now dealing with variants of the same from India, South Africa among others. These variants, unfortunately, spread much faster than the first one.

Rising concerns are now that health facilities may run out of oxygen to give to patients due to overwhelming numbers. The travellers have already been affected by this second wave. Rwanda announced the suspension of flights to Uganda due to high Covid cases. This is not just it, but also, United Arab Emirates is not taking in people anymore until the situation is bearable.

This second wave has come with so much force compared to the first one. However, the good news is, vaccination is going on and over 750,000 people have been vaccinated already. The president as he was locking down some sectors of the economy said no teacher will be allowed to step in class without being vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the best solution currently is to adhere to SOPs as required by the MOH. Otherwise, looking at the speed at which the virus is spreading, we may head to a total lockdown. This is because up to now, people don’t want to wear masks and even wash their hands.
