Nampiima Faridah, PRO, Directorate of traffic and road safety said that the festive season usually is characterized by the increased movement of goods and people. This increases the volume of traffic on roads especially from urban centres to villages.
She also revealed that since the beginning of December, they have arrested a total number of 21,615 traffic offenders. They also issued EPS tickets on various traffic offenses at various checkpoints in the whole country.
‘’……among these, Speeding 682, Reckless driving 3,528, DMCS 3,365, not wearing seatbelts 1,180, invalid driver’s licenses 1,481, third party insurance 2,207, among others,’’ she said in a statement.
She further said they have also embarked on sensitizing road users against drunk driving.
Other measures include; ensuring that only competent drivers are on the roads. This should realize this by checking for the validity of their driver’s license and reminding all drivers to carry a copy of their valid driving license.
Enhancing operations on motorcycle riders aka boda boda. Strengthening the fika salama operations at checkpoints which operate 24 hours/7 days.
