These four officials were part of the nine that the PM put in charge of this project. Prime Minister, Robinah Nabanjja expressed her disappointment in the materials purchased, calling them substandard.
She named the four arrested OPM officials to be questioned. They include Godfrey Kayima, the accounting officer, Henry Agaba Tumwine, the internal auditor, Rose Nakabogo, the acting commissioner in charge of disaster preparedness, and Esther Odongo, the procurement officer.
The items purchased include; mosquito nets, blankets plus food items.
Luke Owoyesigyire, Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson said investigations are underway.
They are still getting more information on how the four ran the procurement of the substandard supplies.
This has however come at the point when Nabbajja had just said Kasese is not a dumping ground.
“Kasese is not a dumping ground, I have rejected blankets and mosquito nets because they are substandard. The supplier must bring good ones because these are the things that paint a bad image for our government,” she said.
Meanwhile, the prime minister has not yet come out to make a statement about this.
